Overview

"Acans" or Micromussa lordhowensis corals are highly desirable large polyp stony corals that boast many different stimulating color combinations that will excite the senses. The addition of these beautiful Acan corals is sure to inject spectacular color and texture to your reef aquarium landscape. LiveAquaria® is pleased to offer a great selection of Acan coral frags that appeals to any preference or budget. These frags will arrive completely healed and mounted to a ceramic frag plug for easy placement in the substrate of the aquarium or affixed to rockwork placed low in the tank.

The Lordhowensis Coral can range in any incredible combination of red, green, blue, orange, or grey coloration. Lordhowensis Corals generally have large corallites (8-15mm) with small teeth or lobes on their septa, as well as well-developed columellae. In the wild, they're found mostly in shallow, turbid water habitats to about 20m, often in protected areas like lagoons, forming colonies up to several meters across.

In the reef aquarium, the Lordhowensis Coral is incredibly hardy, fast growing and tolerant of a wide variety of conditions, including both low and moderate lighting achieved with T-5s, powerful LEDs or the more intense metal halides, as a well as low or moderate water flow. Though tolerant of a wide range of aquarium conditions, the robust Lordhowensis Coral will do best in an established reef aquarium with stable parameters.

Be aware that Lordhowensis Corals are voracious nocturnal predators and competitively extrude mesenterial filaments and digest organisms within reach. Great care must be taken in determining the placement and distance between Lordhowensis colonies and other species of stony corals. Target feed minced mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp and smaller pieces of other meaty marine foods for best growth. The use of a quality protein skimmer helps maintain water quality and combat the effects of heavy feeding.
